A long way to 1Malaysia

Last couple of week ago, I have read the news about a husband (muslim) being convicted of distributing his wife's obsence picture and the magistrate ( a non muslim, i guess from her name) make likely this remark " if you are been trial in syariah court you could be stone". It shock me. How could a magistrate which are the ability to briefly understand an islamic law can make such remark. Coming back to 1Malaysia concept, how we want to achive in short time period if after 50 years of independant we not able understand each others. I think this is a crucial part of 1Malaysia key successfull factor to be consider.
